Fopp music chain falls victim to downloads and supermarkets

Fopp music chain falls victim to downloads and supermarkets: "Intense price competition and falling CD sales have claimed another victim on the high street with the closure of Fopp, Britain's largest independent music retailer."

This is tragic news. My favourite record shop is closing its doors! My relationship with them goes back to when I was working in Edinburgh for a summer (1998 I think) and I spent many a good hour listening to records. The shops were always good for a cheap CD, book or DVD. A mourn for it!

What is most annoying is that they were making a profit, just didn't have the working capital to carry on. Looks like a case of too fast expansion to me. Boo hiss.
